Ain't Technology Grand?
Mar. 11th, 2008 09:46 amI've been up and down with a nasty case of bronchitis (fancy chest cold) for the past week, and have missed a number of days of work right while we're in the first proofing run for the next buyers' guides. My voice has been pretty much gone for most of this time, and when it's been there, I've been doing my very best Wolfman Jack impression. Or maybe it's Barry White – right on, right on.
However, through the magic of the intarwebs, iChat, and Adobe Acrobat, I'm able to get all the proofing, changes, and corrections done almost as efficiently as if I were sitting there in the office. With gas closing fast on $4/gallon, even with the hybrid if I could do this for a week out of every month, it would be a huge savings without any real loss in productivity. The big added plus is that I can listen to stuff like Captain Beefheart, Blood Ulmer, and Screaming Headless Torsos without getting all those odd looks such music engenders in the office.
And no, I'm neither in pjs or underwear. Not quite dressed for the office, but I could answer the front door without embarrassment. There are times when I quite like today's complex world of the future.
