No peeking until you've made your own list

Song you wish you'd seen number 2 perform?
It was on the farewell tour and I kept wishing that he’d play “Sitting On Top of the World”

How many times have you seen number 3?
Lost count. At least half a dozen times. Mule’s keyboard player Danny Louis is an old friend of mine, so it’s pretty much any time they’re in town.

Where did you see number 9 play?
At his nightclub, The Crystal Palace, in Bakersfield.

Favorite song number 8 played?
It was the first tour after Jaco Pastorius joined the band, between the release of Black Market and Heavy Weather. It would be a toss-up between “Birdland” and “Black Market”

Who did you see number 7 with?
Went by myself.

Favorite venue you've seen 4 play?
Only have seen them once, at the Anaheim Pond, which is not one of my favorite venues.

Favorite concert moment from number 6?
Hearing Garth Hudson kick into the organ intro to “Chest Fever” The sound system was perfect, it was a sunny afternoon at The Music Inn in Lenox, MA, and the band was just spot on (interestingly enough, a conversation with Garth a couple of years ago revealed that the whole year or so before “The Last Waltz” show was kind of a blur and he didn’t really remember any of it).

Best thing about number 1's performance?
The whole thing. This was the tour that the Johnny Winter And Live album was taken from, and he was probably playing better than he ever had. Just an absolutely incendiary night of rock and roll.

Why did you go to see number 10?
An acquaintance, fretless guitarist Ned Evett was opening for Satch, and I’m a guitar geek. The two factors combined to make it a show that I had to go see.

How many times have you seen number 2?
Only the once.

Where did you see number 8 perform?
In the gym at State University of New York - New Paltz.

Best cover song you've seen from number 9?
We went up to see Buck a couple of times in Bakersfield. He always took audience requests. One of the times we were there somebody requested “Play That Funky Music White Boy”. Even though I’m pretty sure the request was meant as a joke, Buck played it, and did a creditable job. There’s something about a pedal steel guitar on that tune, though.

Would you go to see number 7 again?
I doubt that they’ll ever play together again, but I’d be there in a second.

Song you never really liked until seeing number 1 in concert?
Oddly enough, I was never that fond of “Jumping Jack Flash” until hearing Johnny Winter play it.

Which albums do you own from number 6?
I’ve owned pretty much every record of theirs over the years, but almost all of them have disappeared through the usual means (lost during a move, stolen, lent out and not returned). Currently only a video of The Last Waltz and grabbed Rock of Ages (one of the best live concert recordings ever, IMHO) off of iTunes.

Worst thing about number 3's concert?
Los Angeles is admittedly their least favorite town to play in, so the concerts here are shorter and less improvisational than elsewhere. Danny keeps telling me we need to come up and see them play in the Bay Area.

The only three songs that number 4 would have to play to make a concert?
“I Will Follow”, “Where the Streets Have No Name”, and “Sunday, Bloody Sunday”.

How far did you travel to see number 1?
From Poughkeepsie, NY to Portchester, NY – about 50 miles

How was number 5's show?
Really good. Brad’s a good songwriter, great showman and an incredible guitar player.

What happened the night of number 1's show?
I was young and foolish and ate four hits of mescaline that night, so any report would be suspect.
