I hear the duck spitting in the oven...

_darkvictory is making a cranberry/apple relish. She also made rolled biscuits for breakfast (which we had with country ham), and we'll be having some of those with duck gravy along with brussel sprouts and garlic grean beans for our Christmas dinner. It's been a laid back holiday here in the VDub household. We talked with my sister, brother, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and nephews earlier today as they all gathered in Brooklyn for their holiday brunch (leftovers, I guess, from last night's massive Christmas Eve dinner) and got caught up on what everybody is doing.
Last night we went to the Foss Family Christmas Eve Shindig (always a good time) and had a chance, which we get all too infrequently, to chat with
colleency and
obishawn, and Mike and Sharon Sheffield (who, if they're on LJ, are anonymous to me thus far). As always, great food, good company, much laughter and pleasant conversation was had. Drove back through the winds to find a huge number of palm fronds in the street – more, in fact, than I have ever seen at one time.
Saturday night, as has been mentioned elsewhere on LJ, we went to the Magic Castle in Hollywood with
betnoir and
western_slope. We'd never been before and have to thank
friendlypinet's friend Spino for the invite. Spino's a pretty decent card and coin guy who adopts the performance identity of a serious, but slightly befuddled geek (not a big stretch). I had talked with Tadao earlier in the day and told him we were going, and apparently he told Spino, who met us at the Castle and showed us around after the show. Got to see him do some neat close-up work in the impromptu room, where we had encountered a couple one of whom turned out to be an archeologist (and who was undoubtedly puzzled by all of us bursting into laughter at that. We left her mystified rather than telling her about our friend,
drarizona, the paleobotanist.
So it's been a fine holiday, and I hope all my LJ friends (and all my non-LJ friends who may never know this post exists) are having a restful, joyous, rejuvenating holiday season.
