I turned 12 the summer of 1967. That's also when I got my first guitar – a $60 Harmony nylon string (the salesguy had told my parents that nylon strings were easier to play). It's also the year that Are You Experienced came out and Jimi Hendix played the Monterey Pop Festival then went on tour with The Monkees. So I was trying to play all that stuff on a cheesy nylon string guitar. I didn't know enough about music yet to recognize the jazz influence in Mitch Mitchell's drumming, but I knew that I liked the way it sounded. I followed Mitchell's career for some time after Jimi passed away, especially the one album with Ramatam, which also featured a lead guitar player who was a woman (passing strange in those days). I just saw the news that Mitch was found dead in his apartment in Portland. So he and Jimi and Noel are together once again (or so I'd like to think, in some fashion). This would mean that any reunion shows are definitely not going to happen anytime soon. At least not where we can hear them.
