Cool Music Find
Dec. 14th, 2005 02:41 pmLast month emusic.com, featured a recording I hadn't come across before (although considering what an XTC fan I am, I'm surprised) - A Testimonial Dinner: The Songs of XTC, consisting of various artists reworking of XTC tunes. Particular favorites are the Ruben Blades' rework of The Man Who Sailed Around His Soul, They Might Be Giants' version of 25 O'Clock, and Joe Jackson's take on Statue of Liberty.
I've been a huge fan of XTC from the early days when Andy Partridge's stage fright hadn't become quite so crippling and they were getting billed as a new-wave band. I think they write some of the most brilliant pop music of the last quarter century. Good stuff!
